As a business owner, it is important that the business practices of Mary Dorsch Pottery are ethical and responsible.
In 2007, Mary Dorsch Pottery became a certified bay area green business. This involves water and energy conservation, recycling and waste reduction and polution prevention. In addition, Mary Dorsch Pottery is also powered by 100% renewable energy. All emmissions are offset by the yearly purchase of wind power.
To minimize the energy involved in the production of new supplies, most of the items in the studio are recycled, from the preowned workbenches to the shelving and carts. Scrap clay is recycled, water and leftover glaze is reclaimed, plastic clay bags are reused and promotional materials are printed on recycled paper. Orders are shipped out in recycled boxes and shipping material whenever possible and new items are purchased from likeminded companies. In addition, imperfect pots that can not be sold are donated to schools or broken and donated to local mosaic artists. Food that is purchased for events is always organic, vegan and local when possible. This helps lessen the enormous toll that pesticides and the production of animal products are taking on the environment.
I am always looking for new ways to minimize the environmental impact of owning a business. Please contact me with any suggestions or questions.
